A major missile and drone assault by Russia struck Kyiv early Monday morning, resulting in at least nine fatalities and injuring 46 individuals, including five children, as reported by Ukrainian officials. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with authorities cautioning that the number of casualties may increase.

This nighttime offensive inflicted significant damage on residential areas throughout Ukraine’s capital. Emergency services reported that no fewer than 15 apartment buildings were either damaged or demolished, including a nine-story building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district, where rescue teams are actively working to extricate individuals trapped in the debris.

Additionally, one fatality was confirmed in the Bucha district, located to the northwest of Kyiv. Russia’s Defense Ministry acknowledged executing what it referred to as a “massive” attack utilizing long-range missiles and drones. The ministry claimed the operation targeted military, energy, and airfield infrastructure in Kyiv and several other regions of Ukraine.

This attack occurs shortly after another significant Russian strike that resulted in the deaths of at least 27 people in Kyiv, making it one of the year’s deadliest incidents in the city. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that combat persists around the strategically important town of Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region, dismissing Russian assertions that the town has been seized.
